I spent the last couple of days making a waist qun to make sure my tutorial was correct.
Before starting this blog, I did not keep my paper patterns for hanfu. I just drew a diagram of the pieces needed and discarded the paper afterward. But now I’m making an effort to keep all my pattern pieces organized for later!
This qun was made using my instructions which you can find here. I know it’s hard to conceptualize how the technical flat translates to a 3D garment so I hope this gives you an idea of what it should look like.
I used four different fabrics. The waist sash is a solid crepe with interfacing. The skirt is made from two layers, a sheer blue floral that is shiny on one side and a solid white lining. The ties were made with a stretch solid to match the waist sash.
All seams are double rolled or French seams, no serging. This gives a clean, tailored finish suitable for lightweight fabrics.
